What Was Your Delivery Room Like?
What was the room like that you gave birth in? Nicer than this I am sure. More comfortable and with a plenty of equipment to assist your delivery should you need it. This is a delivery room in Gimbie, Ethiopia. Women walk for hours to get here to give birth with no pain relief. If you would like to make a donation to help Roger and his team make a difference in Ethiopia please visit our Justgiving site and make sure you mention this site when leaving your details! Thank you!

Even if your local hospital is a bit scruffy with outdated decor, it is probably not as bad as this. This is where pregnant women in Gimbie, Ethiopia have their antenatal appointments. If you would like to make a donation to help Roger and his team make a difference in Ethiopia please visit our Justgiving site and make sure you mention this site when leaving your details! Heavy Bleeding at 12 weeks – My Experience.
The point of this post is not to scare anyone, but to give you an example of an occasion where heavy bleeding does not always have to mean something terrible has happened. If you are squeamish then perhaps don’t read much further. 5 days before my 12 week scan, I opened the front door after a trip to the supermarket, and suddenly felt a gush of liquid between my legs. I knew straight away that it was not wee and ran straight to the bathroom. As I pulled my jeans down – blood was pouring out of me at an […]

Premature baby – chances of it happening again?
I had a premature delivery with my first baby- at 37 weeks, I was wondering how likely this is to happen again? 37 weeks is just on the cusp of being premature. The approximate risk of a similar event is twice the normal risk (ie it has increased from 5-10% to 10-20%.) Some units will attempt to estimate your risk by measuring the length of your cervix at 20-24 weeks. Alternatively, you might be offered a Fibronectin swab test from the vagina at 28 weeks. Please ask your midwife or doctor about this. Your chances of a successful outcome are […]
Do You Enjoy being Pregnant?
In a word…NO! That’s me! Some people seem to love being pregnant. They report seeing a glow in their skin and fullness in their hair, a spring in their step, a special warm feeling as they grow life inside them while they smugly fulfil their evolutionary purpose. I tend to think those women are either lying or recounting their pregnancy in retrospect with a sprinkling of false memory syndrome brought on by the passage of time! However, I think its only fair to acknowledge that not everyone feels the same. It’s a bit of a taboo to say that you […]
