Heel Prick Test.

Traditionally , in the UK , all babies have a “heel prick” test done by the midwife , between 5 and 8 days of age. What’s it for? At the moment, it’s for five conditions. Firstly , it’s for diseases of the oxygen carrying component of the blood which is called haemoglobin. The commonest condition picked up is sickle cell disease. It’s also possible to diagnose cystic fibrosis and cretinism , which is congenital hypothyroidism. Firstly, thank you. This is a briliant website and just what I need as a first timer. I am still only 10 weeks so the nerves have been helped by so much of your answers and advice. Do you have any information on the earliest stage for testing Cystic Fibrosis in an unborn baby? I have heard mixed reports so wanted to check. Strange period- ovulating or pregnant?

I had a weird period that started Wednesday lunch time no pain light had to use tampon through night lasted 7.30hrs then changed 2hrs later then 1.30hr later then 3-4 hrs then lasted through the night again next day 3hrs change then 7.30 hrs then just pad through the night and spotting on sat but no pain my breasts have hurt and tingling still moody and very emotional I just don’t know what’s happen. Miscarriage, positive pregnancy test?

Hi. I had a chemical miscarriage at 5.5 weeks. I did a pregnancy test last week (4weeks to the day I had a miscarriage) and it was positive. Does it mean I am pregnant or should I wait a couple more weeks. How long does it take for the HCG hormone to leave your body? What are the chances of a recurrent miscarriage?   It may take up to 6 weeks for HCG to leave your body after a normal pregnancy but less than that after an early miscarriage.
